The Forest combines horror with survival mechanics
Here’s the story: In The Forest, you crash a plane on an island, only to see your son kidnapped by cannibals. First of all, it is important to ensure your own survival on the inhospitable island, which is covered by a gloomy forest. Once you have done that, you have to go on the dangerous search for your child.
This is how The Forest plays: In order to protect yourself from the environment and above all from the hungry inhabitants of the island, you have to collect resources and food in the usual survival manner, craft objects and weapons, set up the most stable housing possible including traps and always be on guard take care of your own well-being.
First defensive, then offensive: Once you have secured your existence on the island, you can counterattack. However, you should always pay attention to the time of day, because the numerous mutants, cannibals and monsters are mainly out and about at night. If there is an encounter anyway, you can try to sneak or defend yourself with a handcrafted weapon.
You can also play The Forest together: The Forest also has a co-op mode. Here you can work together with up to three other survivors and complete tasks. In order to communicate, however, you need a radio and cannot use any other tools during this time.
This is how The Forest performs in the criticism: If you’d rather have concrete numbers, then please. The Forest has a Metacritic score of 83 out of 100. With an 82 rating, the GamePro test is pretty much in line with the international press. The fact that the title is still not quite enough to keep up with the top titles in the survival genre is probably due to the relatively small studio, because the points of criticism mainly relate to the technology and the variety.
By the way, with Sons of the Forest there is a sequel in the starting blocks for this fall, which could eradicate some of these points of criticism.
Have you always wanted to play The Forest? Or have you already played the title and can recommend it?
